No. 045 RadiGo T-shirts - ラジオ屋さんごっこ (Radio Yasan Gokko)
‘Radio Yasan Gokko’ is a podcast hosted by rapper Valknee, designer Ririko, and architect Tsukasa. With the aim of ‘articulation,’ they engage in discussions primarily focused on topics such as culture, rap, relationships, politics, and comedy. They decided to conduct their live recording in my hometown Osaka and planned to sell original T-shirts to coincide with the event. While they have previously created T-shirts featuring themselves as manga characters and rendered in 3DCG, this time, I designed an abstract graphic representing the three individuals and their names.
In creating abstract figures for these T-shirts, my approach was to capture the essence of each host by illustrating items associated with them. However, since this method had already been employed in previous T-shirt designs, I sought an alternative way to evoke their presence. Consequently, I experimented with sampling dramatic poses from characters in paintings and overlaying them with the mentalities of the individuals. I infused personal sentiments into each painting and pose, such as wishing for Valknee’s triumph in the music industry, capturing Ririko’s lazy Sundays spent watching movies, and reflecting on Tsukasa’s past job dissatisfaction and current uncertainties in job hunting.
